80 documents, 1,130 pages, every one of them full-text searchable. This archive holds the records the main article is built on: the FAA’s agreement with the Air Line Pilots Association, the programme’s own submissions to the congressionally mandated National Academies study, four successive versions of the Step Down Plan, the operational documents that govern a participating pilot, and the federal audit, court and rulemaking records.
Searching this archive. The second search box at the top of the main article searches the full text of every document here and links straight to the page where a term appears. Files that arrived as page images were put through optical character recognition, so all 1,130 pages are searchable. The index is rebuilt whenever documents are added or corrected.
What is not mirrored. The committee-supplied portion of the National Academies release is listed by title but not republished. On verification, most of those files do not contain the documents the index names: of the thirty, at least seventeen carry contents unrelated to their filenames, and two are directly transposed — the file supplied as the FAA airman medical certificate application contains a 2009 journal article on physicians’ health programs, and the file supplied as the 2022 Federal Air Surgeon Bulletin contains the application form. The file supplied as “23 Years of Toxicology Testing Fatally Injured Pilots” is not a PDF at all but a Microsoft Word document carrying a .pdf extension, and reproduces the committee’s own document index rather than the study. A corrected transmission has been requested. Peer-reviewed journal articles are cited rather than hosted, and are retrievable from their publishers.
